THE TEMPEST BALL: RULE OR ROMP

World’s Fair Pavilion, Forest Park


Shakespeare Festival St. Louis hosted the Tempest Ball on April 5, 2014 to celebrate 14 years of groundbreaking artistic and educational programming and raised over $225,000 to support the Festival’s season. The event transformed the World’s Fair Pavilion in Forest Park. The evening’s entertainers included select mainstage, education tour, and Shakespeare Squadron performers who enchanted the crowd of three hundred. Dan Haller, an area eighth grader, charmed the audience with his personal thank you for all the opportunities he has had through the Festival, and Jim Butz spoke of his upcoming leading role in Henry V and his introduction to theatre as an area high schooler.

Honorees for the evening included partners for work In the Schools: Don Danforth from City Academy; In the Streets: Dr. Flint Fowler of Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis; and In the Park: Jean Daniel-Gentry and the Friends of SFSTL for their volunteer assistance. Event chairs were Kiku Obata, John Russell, and Kathleen Thomure. Honorary co-chairs were Ed Macias and Peter Sargent. Entertainment throughout the event included dancing, sonnets, participatory music-making, and special guest DJ Raven Fox.
